Retrowrap SL

RETROWRAP SL is a cold applied, splash zone and subsea corrosion protection system. It was specifically designed for connector and riser systems requiring minimal increase of outside diameter. Corrosion inhibitors on the inside surface of the wrap are in contact with the substrate to provide active protection. RETROWAP SL is held in place with an interlocking, bolt-free closure which induces hoop tension into the wrap fabric, insuring an inward force against the substrate. RETROWRAP SL units may be removed for substrate inspection and then reinstalled.

Advantages of Retrowrap SL

  • Flangeless, bolt free closure with minimum stand off at vertical joint permits easy passage through guide tubes.
  • Cold Applied - No Hot Work Permit Required
  • "Active" Corrosion Protection, No Shotblasting Required
  • Highly Conformable to Contour's of Upset Connectors

Retrowrap SL is a cold applied splash zone and subsea protection system specifically designed to provide an interlocking bolt-free closure where the increase in pipe diameter after installation is limited to less than ½" (12mm). Retrowrap SL is fabricated from a unique multi layer low modulus highly conformable polyamide reinforced fabric which during installation conforms with changes in diameter typical of "upset" full bore Mechanical Connectors. Retrowrap SL is also supplied in interlocking lengths up to 10 ft. (3m) for the on site cold cladding of risers where the application of factory coating is impractical, due to distance or availability in remote areas.

The absorbent inner felt layer, in line bonded to the outer fabric, is factory impregnated with a water repellent thixotropic gel which acts as a carrier for a selection of corrosion inhibitors formulated to provide "Active Corrosion" protection throughout the lifetime of the product.

Substrate cleaning is reduced to "Hand Wipe Down" of the connector body to remove excess grease before carrying out the installation. No labor intensive surface preparation or ancillary material such as tapes, primer sealants or adhesives are used thereby reducing installation to its simplest form.

After installation, the Retrowap SL provides a tough abrasion resistant jacket which maintains a permanent hoop tension over the substrate thereby ensuring that positive contact of the gel is maintained to provide Active Corrosion Protection throughout the life time of the system. The interlocking closures provide for easy removal and reuse of the system in the event of a "Conductor Pull Back" or if substrate inspection is required at a later date.

Safety and Offshore Environment

Since Retrowrap SL is a cold applied system, it does not require a Hot Work Permit which significantly reduces pre installation paper work before carrying out offshore installations.

The materials selected for incorporation into the system are stressed below their operational limits, thereby ensuring that a high safety factor exists while in service. Retrowrap SL units are design to resist wave action, abrasion and impact damage together with long term exposure to UV and ozone. Careful consideration is given to achieving installation within the time available to "set" a conductor connector in both the North Sea, where subzero temperatures are often experienced or in the high temperature regions such as the Middle East or West Africa on "live" risers operating at high temperatures.

Safety is of paramount importance. CCI has designed the Retrowrap SL to conform to the recommendations of the Cullon report regarding offshore safety in the British sector of the North Sea . This document is recognized and practiced by many nations around the world where "flame free" cold installation significantly contribute to offshore safety.

Conclusion

RETROWRAP SL provides an easily installed retrofit method of corrosion or environmental protection of piles, vertical risers and pipes.

The installation of the RETROWRAP SL unit has a unique "Cold Work Permit" status which fully complies with Oil and Gas Offshore Industry's "Codes of Practice".

To facilitate complete post installation visual/NDT inspection surveys and/or maintenance without extensive surface preparation at intervals indicated by the client, the facility exists to remove and refit RETROWRAP SL units without detriment to the long term performance of the material.
