VIV Supression

he Gorilla Quicklock (VIV Suppression Unit)

gorilla unit drawingWith offshore oil and gas exploration moving into increasingly deeper waters, the effects of vortex induced vibration (VIV) has been recognized as one of the most damaging phenomena facing catenary riser designers. VIV causes accelerated fatigue damage to pipe joints, well heads and riser tensioning systems. In addition, the increased Steel Catenary Riser (SCR) lengths require more efficient methods of construction such as "J Lay" or "S Lay" pipe lay barge operations.

In response to these situations, CCI developed its unique, rugged, one-piece Gorilla QuickLock VIV Suppression Unite. Unlike competitive products, the Gorilla's one-piece molded construction reduces installation to its simplest form. Pre-positioned molded banding slots at the roof of each stratke provide and uninterrupted design, which significantly increases the VIV suppression eficiency. Manufactured to suit individual project requirements, the height, pitch, cross section, and length of the Goorilla's triple strake helix is determined prior to molding. For retrofit applications, design variations are available for both diver and ROV installations.

Features:

  • Density, flexibility, and abrasion resistance can be varied to suit specific requirements
  • Produced in easy to handle lengths
  • Factory "doweled" together for instant lineup during installation
  • Single-slit design
  • Springs closed due to residual elasticity
  • Secured by factory fitted, extra wide Kevlar straps in pre-positioned molded slots
  • Corosion resistant quick-lock connectors
